There is no pretending that the NFL’s conference championships held any major shocks. The Chiefs and Eagles both played at home, it was cold, yadda yadda they’re going to the Super Bowl. But it’s at least mildly surprising to discover, here in 2025, that the leading professional football league in our biosphere still cannot be sure whether somebody gets the ball thingy past the line thingy that they need to get it past.

A little strange, right? They’ve got eyes in the sky, a replay review panel, a host network’s full complement of camera angles and experts. But if a player semi-disappears into a scrum at the line of scrimmage, we’re all pretty much left guessing in the end.

How disturbingly human.
