One of the great and time-honored reactions when a monied franchise wins a sports title is to point out the, you know, the, ahhh…

The money.

Like this: Of course the Dodgers won. They can make an $80 million mistake and just paper over it with another signing or two.

Or this: Of course Dave Roberts has three rings as a manager. He’s working for an owner group that almost literally will never run out of money to fuel the quest.

Or this: God, I hate the fluffer trucking Dodgers.

Right? That part’s easy. What we have just done, in fact, is casually dilute the value of an entire organization’s worth of systemic instruction, talent evaluation, player development, promotion, care and feeding, assignment, trade, free-agent strategy, coaching, analytics integration, training-staff theory, deadline activity, player management, crunch-time decision-making and actual performance by dumping lukewarm water over it in a couple of takes.
