The results of the NBA’s annual draft lottery drawing were simply and overwhelmingly nonsensical. The league’s worst teams were denied an opportunity to change their futures by coming up No. 1 or No. 2 in the lottery drawing. Instead, the Dallas Mavericks, with just a 1.8% chance of landing the top pick going into Monday night’s drawing, secured that franchise-altering position in a stunner of a development.
The three teams with the poorest records and therefore the best chances of picking first in the draft, Charlotte, Utah and Washington, came up empty. Instead, they’ll select fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
And — wait, hang on a sec. Let’s back up.
Have we yet indicated that any of this is a problem? Even the “nonsensical” part?
We have not.
Reason?
It is not a problem.
