It’s tempting to just look at the deal and try to figure out who won, right now, this minute. The San Antonio Spurs got the tempo-pushing, lane-creating guard they needed in order to broaden the runway for their elite young star, Victor Wembanyama. The Sacramento Kings got an athletic player who is quietly having a really fine season, along with a bunch of draft picks of varying quality over staggered years to come.
Tempting — but we can’t do the math like that. We can’t do the “De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs, Zach LaVine to the Kings, who got it right?” thing.
Because this shouldn’t have been a thing at all.
