Thanks for reading The Dope.
The Yankees trashed the visiting Milwaukee Brewers so thoroughly over the weekend that an entire cottage industry sprung out of the dirt, based upon the simple premise that the Yanks were cheating by using these weird bowling-pin looking bats that are obviously some sort of — oh, wait. They’re legal.
The Brewers’ pitchers gakked up 15 home runs and 36 runs total in the three games, which sounds suspicious for a two-time defending division champion. On Monday, though, the Brewers gave up two more homers and 14 hits in losing to Kansas City, 11-1, suggesting that their early-season pitching might simply stink.
That probably won’t detract from the “torpedo bat” story, though. We should talk about it! It’s pretty cool.
