First, I’d love for the notion of Major League Baseball employing a graphical strike zone to be a nonstarter. Let’s be clear on that. People call the concept “robot umps,” which is unhelpful and conjures up dumb images from Lost In Space or The Jetsons. I’ve seen the automated strike zone up close, because I have a son playing in the minor leagues. It looks like this:
