I think, maybe, that my first exposure was him on Johhny Carson's couch making the entire studio, and this kid, laugh until snot ran down my face. Terrible loss of a soul who knew how to make life all the better. So glad you got to meet him, Mark.
You are absolutely right. Baseball was better with Uecker int it. Hell, life in general. I'm thankful for living in Milwaukee for 21 years and having the opportunity to hear him every one of those summers. Simply the best.
I wouldn't say you're dating yourself with those player references. Why, it seems only recently that I was watching the Brewers against someone on Saturday at 11:15 am, and the guy they were talking the most about was an 18-year-old kid at shortstop called Robin Yount.
Uecker was a national treasurer, a rare gem of a person, and always wildly entertaining. A spot-on tribute, Mark…right over the plate. RIP Bob Uecker
Ueck's career batting average was right on the Mendoza line but his post-baseball career was one that most players could only dream about. RIP....

A very sad day.

He will be missed.
